This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Will you help us save some trees? My students love to write and draw. The problem is we use a LOT of paper.

Even at 5 and 6 years of age, my students care about the environment.

Even though they come from lower income families, they know what they like, drawing, coloring, playing with markers, drawing with chalk. They also know that trees are cut down for them to do all this drawing and writing. In our class, we do a lot of writing and I do a lot of modeling of writing so they will learn directionality, spacing and so on. We use a large quantity of paper daily which can also be costly.

My Project

With your help, we can cut down on the cost of paper we can only use once, maybe twice. We would be able to use these same boards over and over again. With a few different types of boards we can use them for all types of writing. We can practice our letter formation, use them during our Writers Workshop and during Center time. The stand will help us to be able to show our work easier when sharing with our partners. The Supply Center will also help my class to be more responsible knowing that everything has a place and they need to put it back where it belongs. The chalk table will help us to work together. They will even be able to draw with chalk even if it's raining out and they can't draw on the ground.

With your help we can work together to make a group of environmentally conscious children enjoy witting and drawing and just enjoy knowing they are not wasting paper and trees and money too.

They will also be happy that the boards will never run out, like our paper sometimes does, as long as we have markers and chalk. I thank you in advance for taking time out of your busy schedule to help a group of wonderful kindergartners save a tree.
