My Students

Kindergarten is a year of big transitions! For many children, it is a time when they are starting to learn independence. These seat sacks can help young students learn responsibility, as they take charge of their own supplies.

Our students are trailblazers!

They are the second class in a new neighborhood public school that opened last year. Our school is focused on social action where we teach children about the world they live in and how they can make a difference. The kindergarten curriculum revolves around homes and habitats, so students learn about different types of homes around the world, as well as what happens when people don't have a home. They also learn about animals in the Arctic and the Amazon Rainforest, and how rainforest habitats are being destroyed. Through social action projects, these students are activists from a young age, working hard to change the world for the better!

My Project

Last year, our students stored their supplies, such as writing folders and independent reading books, in bins on a bookshelf. This meant that every time they needed to use these materials, they had to leave their tables, find what they needed, and return to their seats. For many kindergarten students, following these multi-step directions takes time, and sifting through bins to find their folders can be confusing! With seat sacks, students can quickly reach behind their seat to take what they need, leading to more instructional time. With seat sacks, students will have a place to call their own. They will learn to be responsible as they take care of their supplies, and they will take pride in their personal property. Seat sacks will also free up space on our bookshelves for more books and other classroom supplies.

Seat sacks will reduce the amount of time we spend making transitions throughout the day.

In turn, limiting transition time will allow our students to spend more time learning and playing--the most important parts of kindergarten!
