My Students

Imagine being in a world where the language you hear is all jumbled around and you can't make sense of what people are saying. This is what it is like for many children with autism.

My students are second through fifth graders with mild-to-moderate autism.

They spend most of their day with regular students, but need supports to be able to understand what they are learning and express themselves. They attend a public school in a large urban area that has been hard hit by budget cuts. It is a low, socio-economic neighborhood with 50% of students whom are English-language learners. They do not have the benefit of full-time therapists that many students with autism have received and thus I am their main resource for adapting to the nuerotypical world.

My Project

With the requested materials, I can teach the students the patterns of the language and how to make sense of what they are learning. Because many of the materials are games and fun activities, instead of the drill and kill of the regular curricular activities that so frustrate them, the students will enjoy learning.

Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of these children by helping them to learn to make sense of and communicate in this world.

This could possibly even impact whether they can make it in the regular classroom and onto college and a productive life in mainstream society. These kids are so close to fitting in because they are on the high end of the spectrum. Your help could make a big difference.
