This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Dear Donors,

At our High School in the Bronx, our athletic program is a cornerstone of student engagement and development.

Serving a diverse student body—approximately 53% Hispanic, 28% Black, 9% White, and 7% Asian —we are committed to providing equitable opportunities for all. Notably, 80% of our students come from low-income households, which presents unique challenges.

Currently, we lack on-site laundry facilities, making it difficult to maintain clean uniforms for our Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) teams. This often results in athletes wearing unclean or poorly maintained gear, which can affect their performance and self-esteem.

By acquiring commercial-grade washers and dryers, we aim to:

- Ensure Hygiene and Safety: Properly sanitized uniforms reduce the risk of infections, such as MRSA and staph, which can spread through unsanitary clothing.

- Boost Morale and Confidence: Wearing clean, well-maintained uniforms fosters a sense of pride and unity among athletes, enhancing their focus and performance.

-Promote Responsibility: Involving students in the care of their uniforms teaches valuable life skills and instills a sense of accountability.

Our goal is to create a supportive environment where every student-athlete can thrive, regardless of economic background. Access to clean uniforms is a fundamental aspect of this mission, impacting not only athletic performance but also academic engagement and overall well-being.

Our students are remarkable in their resilience and dedication. Despite facing socioeconomic challenges, they consistently demonstrate commitment to their teams and academics. Providing them with the necessary resources, like on-site laundry facilities, acknowledges their efforts and supports their journey toward success.

We kindly request your support in funding commercial-grade washers and dryers for our athletic department. Your contribution will make a tangible difference in the lives of our student-athletes, empowering them to excel both on and off the field.
