Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager scientists, but for some reason they view careers in science for people who are super smart. I want to open up their minds and show them the wide variety of career options in the scientific field!

My students come from a wide variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Many of my students speak a second language at home with their families. My students attend school in an urban setting and are predominantly from low income homes. My students are eager learners who are constantly asking questions and trying to learn more about how and why things work.

My Project

These magazines would help my students improve their literacy skills while learning more about science content. Students can connect with these articles as they are often written to appeal to teens. My students won't feel as if they are working on literacy skills but will be as there are helpful comprehension questions that go along with the magazine as well as new vocabulary words. I also feel it is important that students have an understanding of what is going on in the world around them and these magazines allow students to connect what we're doing in the classroom to what scientists are doing out in the real world!

Having a subscription to Science World will allow my students to work on their critical thinking skills, build their vocabulary, and connect with real life situations and careers.

They may even start to imagine what their lives would be like if they chose a career path in science. Help my students become the scientists of the future!
