Help Inspire My Students With a Classroom SCIENCE Library

My students need a "Science Library" in the classroom. I want them to be scientifically literate and be able to be inspired and engaged in reading high quality articles to prepare them for college and beyond.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I Public high school in Brooklyn. 90% of my students qualify for free lunch. They are about 65% Hispanic and 30% Black.

What makes them special is their curiosity and desire to explore the world despite all the challenges they face.

They are hardworking and deserve a chance to explore the world. I want them to be scientifically literate, which is why I want to engage them with a classroom science library where they can read the latest science magazines.

My Project

I want to improve their scientific literacy. Engaging them in reading latest science magazines could really inspire them to dream bigger and be the future leaders that we need them to be.

I want them to be curious about the world and science magazines are an effective way to connect them with the latest scientific discoveries.

Specifically, every week, students will be responsible for reading science articles from these magazines from our class library. The rotating magazine holder will allow my students to easily browse through the different magazines to pick the ones they are most interested in. It will help me keep the magazines organized and the subscription to the Scientific American and National Geographic is only the beginning. I will be adding other magazines to this growing library.
