This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is comprised of very motivated special education students. My students come from less than ideal homes, and in most situations school is the warmest part of their day. Despite their personal situations, they come to school each day wanting to learn.

My students come from outer-borough Brooklyn neighborhoods.

They lead difficult lives often filled with neglect and other domestic tribulations. Our school specializes in providing a structured, loving and rigorous academic environment to give these at-risk youth the best opportunities they can get.

My Project

My students need pencils, pens, a speaker for our projector and a neuroscience-based game. Learning about the complexity of our world puts students in awe. Being in a state of awe humbles aggression, low self-efficacy and many behavior problems. With the neuroscience-based game "Mindlex", our students will be able to explore their vast "inner worlds" together as a group. We will learn about beta waves, neurons and the brain-mind interaction. With a speaker we will finally be able to listen to clips of a world of interactive multimedia regarding cosmology, geology, physics, biology, and chemistry. Science will come to life for our students! Pencils, pens and a USB mouse will give our students the basic materials they need to learn, items that they are almost always without due to their depressed socio-economic condition.

If you contribute to this project, you'll be helping at-risks students at the very lowest social-economic strata see how enthralling our everyday reality can be, namely, our inner world and internal mental lives.
