My Project

I am requesting an iPad to use with my nonverbal students who do not have iPads or Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices of their own. Having this technology will provide my middle school/high school students with the appropriate communication/visuals they need to become increasingly social and independent during their vocational tasks. Most importantly, it provides my students the opportunity to have their own "VOICES!"

Our most recent venture is continuing a Food Pantry in our school.

The 811Q Food Pantry was created a few years back and had been very successful. This year we are really looking to up our game in the Food Pantry! If I can use an iPad during speech therapy, I can teach my students how to communicate with AAC, and help them build the path to advocate for themselves. They can increase socializations amongst themselves when working in the Food Pantry as well as when they deliver both messages and packages to their peers across all of the school community. In addition, they can use the iPad to organize inventory lists, to keep data and to self assess/express how they are doing vocationally. I'm trying to provide my students with the tools they need to be independent, hard working and most importantly give them the power of having their own VOICES!
