My Students

I teach in a school nestled on the foothills in a beautiful community that comes together and models working hard to achieve common goals. My students are enthusiastic, curious, and motivated learners. Third grade is all about excitement, building friendships, developing curiosity, and learning to become avid readers. It is a time for fast-paced, educational, and fun activities that all my students enjoy very much. This year has started out like no other.

Even though we're all longing to return to the classroom, my students have embraced distance learning and are excited to be learning and connecting in any way they can.

In my distance learning classroom, I am incorporating digital citizenship, social-emotional skills lessons, building relationships with not just me but with other peers in the class, as well as teaching the common core curriculum. Because it isn't easy for 8-year-olds to sit in front of a screen for so long, I make sure to add high-paced activities that involve moving and stretching, as well as breaks between each lesson or activity.

My Project

How can teachers teach during distance learning without a properly working computer? The answer is....they can't. By having this newer version of my outdated laptop, I will be able to teach my excited, little 3rd graders without the glitches and frustrations we experience daily.

This is truer today in the distance learning world of 2020 than ever before. When trying to attach multiple screens (to see my students better while sharing my screen for a lesson), download software for a document camera to directly model for my students, use airplay to use the ipad for instruction, the much older model of the laptop just isn't up for the job!

For countless hours I prepare engaging lessons for my students and when suddenly my computer freezes and can't load something in the middle of the lesson, it's heartbreaking. It is about time to invest in the main tool that distance learning cannot exist without....the teacher computer.
