My Students

Do you remember when you were in school and you couldn't focus because other students were talking? Please, help us turn down the volume so that we can concentrate and succeed in our studies!

I currently teach Computer Literacy in a wireless lab to 6, 7, and 8th graders at a Title 1 school in NY.

Overall, I have close to 190 students, each with their very own preference for learning. My students are very interested in the subject area, but are continuously getting distracted!

My Project

The problem that my students are facing is that they become easily distracted when using the wireless laptops. They are becoming distracted, because the noise volume from the laptops blend in together, and the students all work at a different pace than each other. I often combine the subject of English with computers, and the students use the laptops to visit interactive learning sites. It is important for students to have visual and interactive learning, instead of just having the teacher recite to them constantly. By differentiating instruction, I am reaching each and every student in their own learning preference. The headphones would benefit my students, because they would be able to listen and learn at their own pace, without becoming distracted by the other noise volume from the computers. The headphones will allow each student to focus on their own work and not get caught up in the mix. I especially feel that the use of the headphones will help to motivate the students.
