My Students

As a health and APE teacher I go from class to class with any materials I can muster up to help teach my students about different health lessons. Usually I have worksheets or videos but I believe in using realistic manipulatives to help them learn about healthy habits.

My students do have a variety of disabilities and benefit from different styles of sensory input during lessons.

Being able to see, touch, hear, etc. allows for different opportunities of learning for different students where some may learn best by listening to a teacher, others may learn by seeing pictures.

My Project

I am requesting a Healthy Habits Pocket Chart to use as a visual aid and a model of the lungs and human body to act as a tactile aid. My students will learn not only about healthy eating habits but with these materials they will learn about anatomy. My lessons are interactive and hands on which usually includes manipulatives for my students to work with while learning about different subjects. Health and nutrition is important in our society especially with the growing problem of obesity in our nation.

This project will help create different ways for my students to learn and adapting lessons is the main focus of teachers that deal with students of varying disabilities.
