My students have the odds stacked against them. Over 90% live in poverty and many are learning English as their second language.
Our school is an anomaly when compared to the surrounding schools in the area.
We are a very small rural community on the outskirts of a growing metropolitan area. Despite being a short drive from Fortune 500 companies there is an inaccurate stigma that permeates the student body.
Recently, thanks to a growing population and new businesses in town, the district has overcome financial issues and the threat of consolidation. Our career and technical education classes are ready to empower the students to reach their full potential.
My Project
Thanks to the generous support of the patrons of DonorsChoose.org, my students have been able to start a very successful school based enterprise selling t-shirts and custom vinyl gifts. Without realizing it they have started a business that has them actually using marketing, finance, and customer service skills that they will use when they enter the workforce.
This equipment will allow the students to offer more items, expand their customer base, and increase profits.
They have absolutely loved getting to design and create custom t-shirts and would like to be able to offer more products. This new heat press will allow them to make custom mugs and hats, and increase the number of t-shirts they are able to produce in a timely manner. With this increased capacity they will be able to fulfill larger orders and in turn make higher profits in the business. The money made from the student's business goes to support students going to the state DECA competition each spring.
