I teach first grade in an early childhood school in Brooklyn, New York. The school is a Title 1 school consisting of Pre K through first grade. Many of the children are English Language Learners and more than 85% receive free lunch. Since we are a smaller school, we have a smaller budget. I have twenty-two students in my class and the room is very crowded! The students are constantly moving their chairs to different literacy centers because there is not enough table space. The children spend a great portion of the day rotating throughout various literacy centers, as I work with a group of students on the rug. The children usually take the center task back to their seats to complete, but this becomes difficult with partnership activities. I feel that my students should be able to get up out of their seats and go to a comfortable area in the room to explore and complete center tasks. I found an excellent table that looks like a picnic table with built in seats. The tabletops consist of a chalk /dry erase board, a building grid, and a clear plexi-top. Having a variety of tabletop activities would be an excellent center to have in our classroom. My students love going to centers to write on our small dry erase boards, and now they have the chance to write on the table. I can already see the excitement the children will have when they get the chance to leave their seats to go to this fun learning center. We would be able to use these tabletops from Childcraft throughout the entire day and it is the perfect size for our classroom. Thank you in advance for your generous donation. I know all of my students will benefit from it.
