Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember what it felt like to be part of a team? The skills you learn by participating in after school sports are invaluable: leadership, perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork. Some of my students have never been part of a team before and I'm hoping to change that by creating a school track team!

My students live in the poorest congressional district in the country.

They often come to school lacking the necessary materials to be successful. Many students lack motivation to be in school. They have very few after school activities to choose from and only a boys basketball team. These same students' eyes light up when you talk about sports. It is my hope that by creating a school sports team, students will be motivated to come to school!

My Project

My students need hurdles, discs, and a speed kit. Students will use this equipment to help them learn about the sport of track and field. They'll use the speed kit to work to improve their speed. They'll use the hurdles to practice how to hurdle in a race and the discs to learn the art of throwing. By having this equipment students will learn the fundamentals of track and field and hopefully learn to love training for a sport.

My students need to be more motivated to come to school.

It is my hope that by creating a school track and field team students will want to come to school and do well in class so that they can participate on this team. Donations to this project will help create our track and field team by providing us with necessary equipment to get us off and running! The skills students will learn from being part of a team are invaluable.
