My Students

I teach self contained elementary school students with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. My students work hard to achieve their goals even with the challenges they face each day. I make it a goal of mine to teach independence as well as work with the students to feel confident in expressing themselves. They are taught to be advocates for themselves and express their needs and wants, especially when it comes to their learning environment.

My students have been faced with a ton of challenges due to this recent pandemic and they have proven how resilient they can be.

I want them to love coming to school and feel confident in their learning even during this unprecedented time. In recent years, flexible seating was something that my students always loved. They were able to choose how they learned best and felt comfortable doing so.

My Project

Having these portable lap desks for my students will help them while working together in groups and independently while on the floor. They won't have to be confined to their desks all the time and can feel comfortable grabbing a seat and participating in a way they choose.

These desks give them the opportunity to complete their work in a way that is comfortable for them as well as addresses their sensory needs.

All students do not learn the same and by giving them a choice, this will only promote their independence more!
