My Students

Classroom supplies are an essential ingredient in the recipe for a successful school year. It is often the little details that we tend to overlook that sometimes make the biggest impact in an environment that is meant to provide comfort, as well as the stimulation that keeps young minds moving!

My students are a group of learners who are inspired and driven by the long term idea of building and developing themselves to not only be good students, but good and decent human beings.

A large majority of my students are English Language Learners from so many different countries around the world. I work in a Title 1 school, which means that an overwhelming majority of the students who attend my school receive free or reduced price lunch. My students inspire me on a daily basis with their constant perseverance through obstacles that some adults may not even be able to handle.

My Project

With a rug in our classroom, my students will be able to sit comfortably during our mini-lessons. In my school, we host almost every mini-lesson on the floor in the front of the room. Can you imagine sitting on the floor and expecting to learn a lesson? A classroom carpet will make our meeting area a warm and welcoming place where students are able to join together to learn, participate, and work through our obstacles collaboratively. Our rug will also serve as an area in the room where children can independently read in a reading spot that works for them and can do so in a relaxing way. Students who struggle to stay focused often times need a break from the rigid structure of desk and chair. A change of environment from time to time will not only comfort an anxious student, but will ease their current stress and allow them to work on the activity at hand. A magic carpet in our classroom will take our lessons to a whole new world -- an even more shining, shimmering, and splendid one!

Think about the way that discomfort distracts you from completing your work from time to time.

The way that we feel physically either enhances or inhibits the way in which we perform mentally. With a comfortable area rug to sit on, my students' lives will change for the better because their environment will provide them comfort. The space in which we work is directly linked to the results that we obtain. A mind that is at ease is a mind that is open to learning and exploring new ideas!
