My Project

Thank you for considering my project! I work in an alternative school serving students in grades 7-12 who face emotional, academic, or behavioral challenges. These students need "more" than what a traditional school can offer. While they may struggle behaviorally and academically, they are also the most deserving of love and support.

Recently, we launched an eSports program that has quickly become a vital safe space for students to develop emotional regulation, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Students who once resisted school are now motivated to improve their grades and be part of this community. Some volunteer to tutor peers, while others organize meets and design playoff brackets outside of school WITHOUT THE USE OF CELL PHONES. High-anxiety students who previously struggled to connect are now smiling, engaged, and building friendships.

In short, despite the odds, our students are collaborating, growing, and forming bonds I never thought possible. What I’m witnessing in this small group is truly beautiful—a supportive, thriving community that I hope every child can experience.

I know the medium of video games is has not traditionally been "academic," but the skills they’re learning—communication, problem-solving, and emotional management—are life-changing for these kids. I’m eager to expand this program to reach more students, helping them find their own path to success and connection.
