This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!" I am trying to instill in students a love of reading that will allow them to become life long learners, problem solvers, and future entrepreneurs.

The students in my school are vibrant, energetic, and eager to learn.

They are mostly English Language Learners who come from low income homes. Unfortunately, many of these children do not have access to books or technology at home. They have a genuine love for learning and always try their best to become better at everything they do. Our school is a Dual-Language school and is very small. We do not have many teachers working in our school, but we all work together and pool our resources in order to ensure that all of the children in our care receive a valuable education. We consider the students and their families our family. We conduct many seminars for parents and try to involve the parents in their child's education every chance we get. This year, we will be opening up a second first grade classroom and we have no materials for our classroom library. We want to ensure that these children have the resources available to them that other students have.

My Project

Imagine the look on the faces of 30, 6 year olds when they walk into a classroom full of brand new books. Imagine the pride they will feel when they are able to find a book that they can actually read because it is on their level. Students will be able to use these materials to learn new facts and information about the world around them. They will be able to read with partners and discuss events that happen in books. Most importantly they will be able to develop a love of reading and learning. A leveled library will allow students to have books that increased in difficulty as they become better readers. It will motivate them to practice their reading skills and will give them the opportunity to be exposed to vocabulary and topics that they might never get to see in real life.

Your donations will allow our school to build a library for our first grade students.

By donating to this project, you will help build stronger readers and thinkers. You will be helping to close the achievement gap faced by many of these English Language Learners by introducing them to the world of books. You will also be helping to build self esteem by providing struggling readers with books they can actually read.
