Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from diverse backgrounds, residing in district 7 in the Bronx, one of the most underserved districts in our city. They are bright, charismatic, kind, and energetic children whom have the drive and passion to succeed. However, they are often faced with various obstacles like homelessness, malnutrition, mental illness, loss, abuse, and many other situations our children should not go through. Everyday they make it to school and our goal is to make it a wonderful experience. Our children are 11-15, many have the wisdom of individuals much older. Our children are gifted, they are talented, and need the resources to excel and enhance their skills. Our children have so many extraordinary ideas and my job is to ensure they come to life!

My Project

90% of our students receive free school breakfast and lunch. For many this is the only meal they may receive. Unfortunately, most get hungry throughout the day and struggle to stay awake in class, stay focused, and stay healthy overall! Our kids face hunger. Small snacks help them push through everyday. Colleagues like myself bring in different foods for them to try everyday, as we are able and they love it but we can’t do this alone. It is extremely difficult but needed. Our children deserve to go days without feeling hungry. They deserve to have their basic needs met. Please help us with this small project of providing snacks for our children
