My Project

Imagine coming to the United States from another country and speaking another language. Then, imagine that you are a high school student who not only has to learn English but also the content of their classes in Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts while all of the classes are taught in English. Then, imagine you have to take exams and do your classwork in English for these classes. Lastly, imagine using an old-school paper dictionary to do all this work promptly. This is the reality that the students in my English as a Second/New Language classes face daily.

Electronic Translators would be life-changing for these students.

My students have recently arrived in the United States, and their content teachers work hard to include them in their lessons and community. Teachers work hard to translate documents into students' languages and to work with them to make the content accessible. However, there is always a need for the ability to translate documents and speech on the spot to enable students to do their work efficiently and to communicate their needs to their teachers.

Please consider contributing to my project and helping buy electronic translators for my students to use in their classes. You will give students the much-needed gift of communication and inclusion in their classes. These translators could be used to do classwork, homework, tests, projects, and other school-related tasks much more efficiently and do not involve using cell phones, which are not permitted during exams. If you donate to this project, you are going to have a positive impact on the lives of many immigrant students. Thank you!
