This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an incredibly bright, creative group who come from the New York City area.

They all come from diverse backgrounds and bring a plethora of perspectives with them to enrich our classroom. Many are children of immigrants or recent immigrants themselves. Some come from the housing projects nearby. They are talented artists, writers, poets, and musicians. They love to learn and to create. Our school is an inclusive and inviting environment which emphasizes sustainability and environmentalism. While the school does all that it can to support its students, it lacks the necessary resources to provide even basic materials.

My Project

If we can get basic art supplies for art projects in class, like glue stick and markers, our students can display their creativity and artistic talents. We often do projects in which students are asked to create political cartoons or charts, and having more art supplies will allow students the opportunity to create incredible work. Receiving a class set of "The Diary of Anne Frank" will also greatly benefit my students. In our recent lessons on the Holocaust, they proved to be incredibly interested in Anne and her story. They were incredibly engaged in learning about this dark time in world history and would get to learn about it even further if Anne Frank's diary were available to them in the classroom.

Receiving these art supplies will provide the opportunity for greater creativity and for the students who are artistically minded to shine.

By acquiring a class set of "The Diary of Anne Frank," my students, as well as future students, will be able to further explore a topic in which they have shown great interest. This initial interest and the availability of the book can help push my students to becoming avid readers. Don't wait! Help improve my students' world today!
