Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hunger is widespread, and it affects our school children. Our school feeds hundreds of students through our school lunch program, but so many slip through the cracks and go unnoticed and hungry. Our goal is to ensure that no child is hungry so that they are able to learn and succeed.

My classes consist of amazing students.

Due to the recent decline in the economy, many people are out of work. This has caused many students to go to school hungry. Often times they are too proud to ask for help. We would like to help provide for students whose families may be going through brief or extended times of difficulty. It is our hope that all of our students receive the basic needs which will enable them to learn.

Working with at-risk students requires being extra prepared. I try very hard to have supplies for most every situation, such as feminine products, healthy snacks for students who don't have lunch, pencils they can keep, and candy for participation rewards. I provide snack foods to students who would normally go without them.

I've requested consumable items such as chips, crackers, pop tarts, bottled water, beef jerky, and other small treats that are used as incentives for a job well done or to supplement their meals.

Will you help make a difference in a child's life? Help me reach kids and teach them by simply caring about them. Each child deserves a chance, and I hope to help them by stopping their hunger and jump-starting their learning.
