My students need 3 hands-on phonics games, 1 set of language-building photo cards, and 1 set of phonics pictures cards to practice and master basic reading skills. They also need 1 set of photo math cards to integrate mathematics vocabulary into their reading and language learning.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach information skills to K-5 students, such as how to find information, understand it, use it, and share it. This year, a class of intellectually disabled students was added to our school. The students in this class are in grades 3-5 but have deficits, sometimes severe, in their learning. For example, all students have deficits in reading, with the majority being assessed as beginning readers. One student is also completely nonverbal.
I see these students at least once a week and feel a sense of urgency to help them to become better readers. We live in an information-driven world, and these students -- like all students -- must be able to access, understand, and use information in order to be successful students and successful adults. Being able to read and comprehend information is the critical first step on that journey.
Although I incorporate literature in everything we do, students also need hands-on practice with basic reading skills. For that practice, we need manipulatives that they can touch, sort, move around. I also want their learning time to be a fun time! For students with disabilities, the learning process can be so challenging and frustrating; I'd like to use the games and photo cards I've requested to help motivate their learning and to help them come to enjoy the process of learning.
