Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a passion for all things animal related. Our Agriscience program gives students from all backgrounds the exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience caring for farm animals such as chickens, geese, ducks, goats, and cows.

Children, especially ones from our low-income neighborhood, do not typically get the opportunity to handle, feed, and groom farm animals.

My students know that we go out to the farm once a week, yet they eagerly beg me almost every class to go outside to handle the animals. It is truly rewarding to witness their excitement blossom into passion.

My Project

These incubators will give our class the opportunity to closely monitor the development of eggs on their journey to becoming chicks. Children do not typically get the opportunity to observe eggs develop embryos, and subsequently hatch. This project will not only educate children on the life cycle of a chicken, but it will also teach them how to rear chicks for our farm for future students to care for as well. An incubator would be used every school year to help facilitate our Agriscience program, helping us save money.

This is the perfect project for our hybrid classroom setup due to COVID-19, as students learning from home will have access to videos and photos, updating them on the developing embryos!

This allows both in-person and at-home students to feel engaged in the development of these embryos as they eventually hatch into chicks!

Furthermore, I look to use this project as an opportunity to open a discussion with my students and others about the importance of agriculture in society. Please consider donating to help fund our project! Thank you for your help!
