Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, motivated, growing youngsters who are ready to take on the world. They have so much love for school and they are so eager to learn. I absolutely love their spirit! I have noticed, though, that they grapple with a lot of stress, anger, and sadness. They want to get past their whirling emotions so that they can have a successful day but they have great difficulty self-regulating. They want to have friends and meaningful school experiences. They want to feel safe to express their feelings and not feel that they have to keep them bottled up inside. If only they had a more comfortable place to express themselves and keep calm so that they could get back on track after letting go of their stressed energies. They would accomplish so much more and shine even brighter as the stars that they are!!

My Project

The students will use the comfy bean bag and homey rug to have a clean and cozy place to sit that is off the bare floor in the safe spot corner. Here they will be able to make better choices when dealing with anger, confusion, sadness, or frustration. The supplies donated, such as a portable cd player, relaxing music CDs, Theraputty, and stress balls will give them activities that they can use to help calm down. The foldable crate will be used to store all of those items. Students will also use a low height privacy divider so that other students will not invade their private calming time but teachers can still keep a safe eye on them. Having a timer will give them both accountability and awareness of when to return back to their schoolwork.

The students have expressed a desire to have a place to get rid of the anger throughout the day.

Some have even said that, at times, they feel like they just want to rip something. Your donations will be greatly appreciated by the students as it would give them positive ways to deal with stress and anxiety. They would definitely use all of the materials and be so grateful that someone cared about their feelings and not just their academics.
