My Students

I work at a school where over 90% of our students come from families that are considered low socioeconomic families. It is a small community, but our staff is very dedicated and we have some of the most talented and gifted students. We have students that have experience loss, that have difficult backgrounds, and have every reason to give up but they work hard. We were able to obtain 6 distinctions from our state education agency last year, and we graduate the largest graduating class of all the schools in our region.

My Project

As the pandemic hit schools last year we were forced to speed up our quest to become a paperless community. We were applying for grants and working with our funding as a Title I school to put devices in the hands of each of our students, to aid in the new culture of technology. While that was difficult in itself, because we are more than 90% low socioeconomic district we have now been able to do it. However, with students being out of school the remainder of last year it was extremely difficult for them to get work turned in, because even with the device many of them did not have printers to print out their assignments and complete them, and using their fingers to annotate and write was not easy for them, and harder for us. As we return to school we want to remain a paperless community, but our students still need to complete assignments. I want to have at least a classroom set of stylus that are conducive to writing for them to use. Please help me, as last year so many of our students had difficulty with this and many assignments were incomplete because they were not able to print out their worksheets or draw their graphs. I teach AP Micro/Macroeconomics for 12 graders and there is a lot of math and graphs that have to be demonstrated.
