This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I want my library to be a place where all of my K-6 students can come read and listen to wonderful stories. I'm trying to create an inviting space where they can come and get lost in a good book. My goal is to get all of my students at all reading levels excited about reading.
My students, ranging from grades K-6, have big dreams and I want to be able to provide them with a library that they deserve.
I hope that creating a fun space to read and listen to stories will get them excited about all sorts of topics and encourage them to read more. My school is in a low-income area, so not every child has a stack of books waiting for them at home. Also, my school district has lost millions of dollars in funding over the last few years, so buying fun furniture is not an option. Hopefully, I will be able to provide them with the book titles and space that they can all enjoy while at school.
My Project
The reading rug will provide a space for my K-2 students to come in and enjoy of fun story. Also, the bean bag chairs will provide some comfortable seating for all of my students to read independently. Currently, my library does not have any comfy seating.
The overall goal is to create lifelong readers while providing an inviting and kid-friendly library.
I believe that a reading rug and bean bag chairs will help create this inviting space that students will enjoy for many years.
