My Project

CES is a Title One School. Many of our families live check to check. Hurricane Ian damaged our school. 48 classrooms were impacted. The school was completely flooded in. Most of the surrounding roads were completely flooded. A vast majority of homes were flooded, roofs were lost. Our school was closed for 16 school days. When our students returned to school, they told many stories of losing everything ( pets, clothes, school supplies, homes, and vehicles). They still anxiously watch the weather when it begins to rain or the wind picks up.

In April, 2024, our school is going to host a huge community event called Remake Learning Day.

There are 78 community agencies and businesses that will contribute to the day. The theme of the day is Around the World in 180 minutes. Every grade level has been given a continent. Each teacher on that team then chose a country for their class to study. The students are learning about their country and creating projects to display that day. Families will come to learn what their child has been studying and connect with community resources. This day is to celebrate our rebuilding of the community and bring families, students and school together.

Our Specials Team is studying the Antarctic. We want to immerse our entire student body in learning about the Antarctic. Our goals for this project include building an igloo, mapping Antarctica, creating a photo op display with a penguin cut out, conducting blubber experiments, creating artwork about the Antarctic animals and creating a primary (Pre-K -2nd grade) and Intermediate (3rd grade-5th grade) gift baskets full of books and plush animals for the students to win in a raffle.
