My Students

My students are eager and voracious readers. They love coming to the library and checking out books. But what really makes them truly special is their shared passion for reading. You could walk into the library during any class and see kids enthusiastically recommending books to their classmates, showing off the books they checked out, gushing about their favorites, and making plans about their next reads. It's really quite wonderful to be their librarian.

Coming back to in person learning after so many months at home, my highest priority is strengthening these connections between students and nurturing our community of readers.

There is no better way to do that than by sharing books!

My Project

Every year the Washington Library Association nominates books for the Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award. Across the state, students in grades K-3 vote for their favorites! The books are the best of the best, perfect for reading aloud and sharing with friends. Some of the books are tender and sweet, others are delightful and silly. Some address tough issues. All of them are affirming and inclusive.

I am requesting the picture books nominated for the Washington State Children's Choice Picture Book Award.

Over the course of this year, I will read all of these books to our K-5 students and at the end of the year, they will get to choose the one they loved the most! The best part about this award is that all the kids will have read the same books and have that shared experience not just with their classmates, but with everyone.
