My Students

My students attend a New York City Title I school in Brooklyn. Every day, our school warmly opens its doors (or logs on) to a highly diverse group of fifteen hundred middle school students from every corner of the borough and the world. Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, and Russian are just some of the languages you might hear walking down the hall, or in the school yard. In support of our school's population, our administration has worked hard to create a compassionate environment where differences are celebrated.

Within our Social Studies curriculum, my colleagues and I encourage our students to think of the “big picture” by examining the evolution of historical events, as well as, different cultures to discover how they have influenced our present-day world.

We are unsure what September holds but regardless of where and how our school day will take place, my 6th grade students need to strengthen their organization skills to better succeed in transitioning into middle school!

My Project

I am a strong advocate for career and college readiness. For this project, I want my students to have ownership and feel a responsibility towards their learning materials. I would appreciate your help in providing my students with 3 pocket folders, labels, and printer ink (in which to print the labels) to help keep their classwork, current events materials, and learning resources organized.

Watching my students gain skills in organization and responsibility is incredibly rewarding.

I can see a sense of pride in my students when they can quickly find their assignments and notes!

It is my goal to create individual labeled folders for each student . One pocket will be labeled "classwork", this will help my students keep their lessons in order throughout each unit. The second pocket will be labeled "resources". Resources, will consist of writing templates, vocabulary terms, and reading comprehensive strategies. This folder pocket will be referenced throughout the school year. The last pocket will hold my students’ Scholastic News subscription. These magazines make current events understandable and relatable through fun activities and interesting articles.
