Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th grade humanities (literacy and social studies) in one of the poorest school districts in the country, which is a major challenge for them. My students are a truly wonderful and appreciative group of students, and would love the opportunity to read books.

My students are an incredible bunch of people, and wonderful students.

They come from a very tough and very poor neighborhood, but this has not stopped them from being incredibly sweet, generous and caring people. 1% of our schools parents have a college education, but I know for a fact that my students are well on their way to attending college in the future. It is a testament their great attitude and tough skin. They are humble and take nothing for granted, but give so much back through the people they are.

My Project

I have selected a variety of different books, from a variety of different genres. The books I do have in class that meet student interests not only fly off the shelves....they have waiting lists! If these resources somehow make themselves to my classroom, it will bring a true, real smile to the faces of my students. I know, because I have experienced it, that students will be lining up to sign out that new book they have heard all about. As an educator, there is nothing greater than providing a student with a learning opportunity that they want to experience for themselves.

Without the Donors who are continually gracious, many students would not have the learning opportunities they do.

Donors have made it possible to bring a richer learning environment into so many classes, making students have a memorable experience. My students love to learn, unconditionally. They are always interested, always asking questions, always looking for more. My students will have a chance to extend their learning and love of reading.
