This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an inner-city school of visual and performing arts. My students live in neighborhoods where violence and crime are pretty much a part of their daily lives. They want to make a difference in the world and they want to go to college or trade school. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some are in shelters, living with other family members or in a single headed household. During the pandemic they have also faced a variety of challenges.
My students are determined to be successful!
My students are great kids, many come in years behind academically and work hard to catch up. They try their best every day to improve their own and others' lives. They do this with focus and determination.
My Project
My students are experiencing so much being home during the pandemic. Their families are struggling to make ends meet and yet my students still show up and participate and show enthusiasm for school. I would like to surprise them with some goodies (that are a luxury that they miss during pandemic) and either an art kit or writing kit. I have students who love to write, so a journal will help them pen their thoughts and feelings. I also have students who are fabulous artists and love sketching. Help me brighten their winter with a box of their favorite things. It's a way to let them know that people do care about them and are so proud of the work that they are doing.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
