Help Bring Critical Staples to Children with Disabilities!
Help me give my students a comfortable place to sit for therapeutic intervention!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our magnet school has not reaped any of the benefits of extensive north Brooklyn gentrification and development. Our school primarily serves the children of local city housing projects; disenfranchised youth who face incredible odds. Despite our lack of resources and a "high risk" population (30% of students are considered "disabled"), our staff shines everyday. Students are greeted with a smile, a handshake and music every morning. Teachers volunteer their free time to do hall monitoring and work intensively with particular students. Staff stays late everyday to plan and process for those in the most need.
Our students seek structure and guidance everyday, but our classroom lacks basic resources to service them.
Gabriel needs interventions with his executive functioning delays. Emanuel needs behavioral support and consistent checking in. Tristan's dyslexia is contributing to his acting up in class.
Despite their personal situations, our students come to school each day wanting to learn. Our students realized that there are evidenced-based learning intervention apps that are effective for ameliorating learning disabilities such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. Our students demand the most current and effective interventions!
My Project
Our children deserve basic staples during therapeutic interventions! We need seating for our therapy sessions. If not, then our kids will not be comfortable enough to establish the therapeutic relationships necessary. Comfortable seats are a simple object but make a huge difference in rendering a group or individual therapy a comfortable environment. If our students were made to sit on steel chairs, they will be in the same tense, guarded and defended environment which they are in during class-time. Instead, there needs to be a radical break in their experience during therapy in order to ensure that they are vulnerable enough to make change.
