Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is highly enthusiastic but the pressing challenge is having at least one modern computer that can be positioned in any center to give them access to many programs and websites for language learning, hence giving them an edge. I believe knowledge through technology is the great equalizer.

My students are eager but economically needy.

Our population is mostly immigrants who struggle every single day. We are a Title I school, meaning that most if not all of my students are in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. The opportunities that are taken for granted in a middle and upper middle class setting are virtually non-existent in our population. Therefore, when you cannot afford to visit museums or travel since your parents hold two jobs, having access to the finest educational programs comes through a virtual museum, your portal to the world.

My Project

This computer will be a resource to connect, open minds, discover doors beyond the four walls of the classroom; it will inspire my students and ignite their enthusiasm beyond the pages of a book. This resource will help them make the connection between the written word and the real world through technology by using interactive programs and websites that will bring to life the written page.

This will bridge the gap between a sometimes "dull" or at least abstract written page and a highly engaging interactive presentation.

It will afford me the opportunity to enliven the classes and spike their motivation, participation and level of interaction and finally, it will be instrumental in achieving true educational ownership. Hence, it will be a stepping stone to infuse in my students the unquenchable thirst to become lifelong learners.
