I am a special education teacher in a 6:1+1 classroom. In my school, students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and all of them receive free lunch. The students in my classroom are students that are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and have social and academic challenges.
I would like to close the gap in achievement for my students by acquiring and using more interactive resources for learning, communication and instruction.
Students with disabilities require intensive instruction in order to learn and achieve in school. My students are eager to learn and explore the world around them! They need concrete learning experiences to support generalization of skills. They would really benefit from the use of technology in many areas of their learning. These areas include, but are not limited to, communication, behavior, social and academic needs.
My Project
My students are non-verbal and visual learners and by incorporating iPads into our daily instruction, it is allowing my students to have a voice, express themselves,build confidence and creates a pathway to promote higher order thinking skills.
With the help of iPads, my students can achieve greater success in overcoming academic barriers and emotional roadblocks they face, enabling the technology to open the doors for learning in ways that may have been challenging before.
iPads and technology in general are highly motivating for students and by including this resource within the classroom, I will be giving students an outlet to remain engaged and promotes success in all areas using innovative apps and programs.
