Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a year nine teacher, I’ve participated in countless professional development sessions. Admittedly some were more practical and applicable for my students than others. My students are bilingual and multilingual learners who are acquiring English, acclimating to new spaces, and learning new academic content. All that said, the PD sessions that honor who my students are (both in and out of the classroom) and who I am as their teacher are the ones that made the most difference in our collective lives and experiences together.
Whenever I’ve engaged in a PD offering of high quality, I’ve been left with a personal desire to explore, question, and further my learning.
These sessions are ones that I often took copious notes about and immediately started doing two things 1– implementing new learning and 2– reaching out to PD presenters for more chances to learn. This exactly was my experience with Breathe for Change.
This project will help cover tuition so that I may learn more about Mindfulness, SEL, and complete a Yoga Teacher Training, too. I already completed an incredible 3-session series with Breathe for Change which is what makes me certain that this PD will continue to be worth every second and penny spent. Funding this project will help me develop new strategies to holistically meet my students where they presently are so that they may heal, grow, and prosper. More importantly, this PD will not only have in-classroom implications as it’ll support the learning of the English language and academic content, but it’ll also support personal growth.
