My students come from all over the world - Guatemala, Mexico, Egypt, Africa are just a few. My students are from poverty-stricken areas around the world. They come with very little and don’t have basic necessities at home or at school.
As a teacher, I know that learning will not take place until their basic needs are met.
My students work very hard and try their best at school even when things are tough! They truly are great students with a bright future.
My Project
I teach in a high poverty area where many students do not have resources at home to keep learning. I want to provide my students with material that they could use at home while we are not in school. Our district has decided to do online learning for the first nine weeks of school. The Scholastic News and Let's Find Out magazines and word skills workbooks would offer them some "fun" material to complete and read in their downtime.
My students are in English as a second language class and the material I'll provide will engage them so they don't lose their language skills while they are learning at home.
Many of them do not use English at home and will need exposure to continue becoming English proficient. We all know the more you use your new language the better you will become. I want that for my students so they don't regress during this difficult time.
