My Students

Our students are a diverse group of boys and girls with amazing personalities that blow us away every day. Over 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them live in public housing across the street.

Our students live in the heart of a bustling urban center.

They are primarily African-American and Latino. Our students thrive in our heavy aesthetic arts and museum education curriculum. They are creative students who want to experience more in the world.

My Project

We are a museum themed school. Right now we are studying 3D shapes in Kindergarten. We are going to end our study with observing 3D shapes used in public works of art, i.e. sculptures. This gives the students an opportunity to see that 3D shapes can be part of everyday structures. It allows them to increase their vocabulary and use more descriptive words when describing the world around them.

We will integrate our museum theme with our knowledge of 3D shapes and our understanding of community to create our own sculptures that can be displayed around our school as public art.

We need to order enough Geoblocks, that have the shapes we have been learning about, to build sculptures that we can show during our Museum night at school. The students will choose from the available Geoblocks and build what they would like. The students will build objects they typically see in their environment. The sculptures will be held together with wood glue. The students will then create museum labels that describe their sculptures and shape choices.

After completing this project students will have a stronger vocabulary base, be able to use more descriptive words in their world, and of course know that they can contribute to the aesthetics of a community with public works of art.
