I teach in a multi-age classroom of children between the ages of 3-6. Our school is one of the few public Montessori Schools in our city. My students are very active and enjoys different hands on activities.
Snack preparation in a Montessori classroom is an internal part of my students' learning.
My students learn independence, gross and fine motor skills and coordination to name a few. This activity is a very popular choice for my students. I have given them lost of opportunity to taste and consume healthy food.
My students take pride of themselves when they are able to prepare their own snack at school. They are able to take ownership of the process and practice healthy eating habits. This kid-inspired project will entice my students to make better choices in the food selection. This learning will not only give them proper nutrition but also extend to their food choices outside of the classroom.
My students enjoys the process of making their food which they also share with their peers.
From previous years, my students had very limited choices in developing nutritious snacks. I was inspired to start this project because I know that my students are interested to learn more about food preparation. I would like to use this interest to teach them how to make healthy and nutritious food.
The appliances that I am asking for will be helpful for the children to be successful in preparing the snacks that they will consume and share with their peers. The tools are kid-sized so that they can manipulate these tools easily and safely. The decorative lamp, tent and table covers will entice my students to this activity so that they can practice the learning everyday. These will also provide them different settings and themes for their snack. Maybe one day they would like to set up a cafe, or maybe a picnic setting? The possibilities are endless!!!
