Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will have the opportunity to dissect a real heart from a sheep. Sheep hearts are very similar in structure and appearance to human hearts, making them great tools for learning about the human body. We can compare sheep hearts to diagrams of human hearts to find the similarities between the two.

In the 4th quarter we explore evolution and homologous structures between different animal species.

We will use real hearts from sheep and compare them with diagrams of human hearts to identify similarities and differences. We will also compare these hearts to frog hearts in another planned lab. By being able to dissect hearts from two different animal species and making comparisons of the structures and functions to human hearts, students can see firsthand the importance of studying the anotomy of organisms in relation to evolution.

My students are special becuase they are excited to come to school and learn. They love to learn, especially when we do labs and other hands-on activities. My students are hyped to do our planned frog dissection. Giving them a sheep heart dissection would be the best way to encourage them to keep that excitement and love for learning going. Showing the students that science and learning is fun is my goal as a teacher.
