This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My student's are growing up in a high risk area, where most people count them out before they even get started. They live in a neighborhood that is primarily section 8 housing. We are a Title I school, and All of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most students come to school without having any school supplies from home. Unfortunately funding has been cut in our district and supplies are not easily accessible. It is my hope to update our classroom by providing resources we do not have access to.
My Project
My classroom currently has five computers in the classroom. Three of these computers do not have speakers and our class headphones have broken over the years. This makes it hard to use our technology programs for instruction, especially for learning to read. Hearing literacy correctly is crucial for developing readers. By gaining these headphones and speakers my class will be able to use headphones in our read aloud center, along with headphones being used for instruction lessons. In addition we are in need of speakers for the classroom, so when we do read aloud whole group everyone can hear what is being read, and can follow along.
