My Project

Algebra I: A Student Paced Approach

The Algebra I classes with Mr. Groenke will be completing Algebra I using a new, educational approach to meet the needs of every learner in the classroom.

The content will be delivered in a self paced approach via the use of the online tool Khan Academy. Each student will be assigned the entire course for the year with certain minimum benchmarks that need to be met by each quarter in order for grades to be entered in a timely manner. Each day the students will participate in class by working through the course at a pace that meets their educational needs (it may look like organized chaos at times).

Mr. Groenke will serve as a guide monitoring the room to provide one on one instruction and assistance as needed. The learning becomes a partnership and the ultimate goal is for the students to feel confident and in control of their learning. Khan Academy delivers a curriculum that aligns with the standards set forth by the state of South Dakota and also aligns with Big Ideas and Common Core guidelines. In addition, using this platform familiarizes students with a similar format they will use when completing state testing for math.

These headphones will allow students who don't have headphones to be able to listen and follow along in the learning modules so that they can get a better understanding of the content! Many of them do not have headphones that work with the laptops and I would like to provide that resource for them!
