My Students

I teach Kindergarten at a charter academy in West Michigan. My scholars are brand-new to school, and are beginning their academic careers at a time when unprecedented changes are happening daily due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the school experience is new for them, they are learning to navigate new and innovative ways of learning as our whole school returns to in-person learning. They are curious, flexible, eager learners, and I am so excited to spend the year with them!

My Project

As we return to in-person learning, we are continuing to teach scholars how to use the Chromebooks in the event that we need to go virtual, or individual students need to learn from home. In addition, we are teaching 21st-century technology skills like using a keyboard and mouse, navigating a webpage, and more.

To help our kindergartners become more proficient with the Chromebooks, while also practicing grade-level content skills, we use two programs every day: Lexia and DreamBox.

Lexia helps reinforce early literacy skills such as letter recognition, letter sounds, blends, and beginning reading. DreamBox is a program that reinforces skills in number sense, counting, and beginning mathematical operations.

In order to use these programs at full potential, we require headphones so that students can play the sound on these websites. I have selected over-the-ear headphones that are durable and are perfectly sized for kindergarten ears. These will be passed out to students to use individually, but are able to be sanitized at the end of the school year so that we can continue to use them for years to come.
