This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my middle school students are still mastering foundational reading skills, including phonics and fluency. Since they are significantly below grade level, they rely on specialized programs that provide explicit phonics instruction and text-to-speech support. However, without headphones, they struggle to focus and fully engage with these tools in a noisy classroom environment. Providing each student with a pair of headphones will allow them to hear letter sounds clearly, follow along with narrated texts, and build confidence in their reading abilities. This simple resource can transform their learning experience, making reading more accessible and personalized.

The goal of this project is to equip every student with the necessary tools to improve their reading skills and close learning gaps.

With headphones, students will be able to work independently on their individualized reading programs, reinforcing phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension skills at their own pace. This project aims to increase student engagement, improve fluency, and help them gain the literacy skills they need to succeed not only in school but in life. By providing these essential resources, we are setting them up for long-term academic growth and success.

My students are determined, resilient, and eager to learn despite the challenges they face. Many come from underprivileged backgrounds and have had limited access to educational resources, yet they show up every day ready to improve. They have big dreams and understand that literacy is the key to achieving them. By supporting this project, you are not just providing headphones—you are giving my students a chance to break barriers, build confidence, and discover the joy of reading.
