My Students

Have you any idea how hard it is to concentrate on working with noise in the background. My students have no headphones for their classroom computers. This is a serious problem because I have to limit the amount of time when they can use the computers and that is a true hindrance on education.

My students are First graders.

They consist of Learning Disabled, English Language Learners and Hold Over students. They come from all different heritages including Spanish, Russian, Black, White and Pakistani. They are lovable, friendly eager learners. They love to read, write and do math and the best activity of all is computer enrichment. They love to come to school and participate in what ever the day brings. The school is a Pre-K through 5 grade school with low poverty students in Brooklyn, NY.

My Project

My students are hard workers and are dedicated to their educations even with the hardships they endure everyday. My students value their time on the computer but often it is limited because it distracts the other students in the classroom. The students deserve the reward and motivation that computer learning brings. Computers are an important part of our society that must be taught to students of all ages. Many of my students do not have computers at home and do not have the chance to explore and learn on the computer outside of the classroom. They will be able to access reading, writing and math programs on the computer which will help keep them encouraged to keep working. The other items requested are for our final writing project. My students decided they wanted to produce individual books, so how can we deny them? We are going to publish different pieces of their writings with illustrations and they will have this to keep for the rest of their lives.

This project is important because I try to keep my students encouraged by always rewarding them when they accomplish something.

It hurts to tell children they can not go on the computer even though they have earned the right to. My student success is so important to me. I want them to know they can achieve anything even if they are not starting on the same playing field as others might be. They still can be anything they want to be.
