My Students

My 2nd grade students live in a gorgeous rural town in Alaska. With that comes fishing, hunting, and hiking--opportunities that make my kiddos rugged and healthy. Yet the rate for children living in poverty here is much higher than the national average of 22%. So it's a mixed bag. My students want to learn, but often come to school not ready to learn. Any tools that make learning easier helps kids engage in their learning and brings smiles all around!

My Project

Computer time is getting crazy! We're down to about 4 pairs of working headphones because they're so very old. Our lack of headphones is detracting from our ability to do the type of work we wish to do. So it's time to ask for help getting a new set! While we're asking, we'd really like to have the capability to record our voices too! These amazing headphones include a mic so that we can do just that.

We are learning so much by publishing our work as movies, Voice Threads, speech-to-text, and having decent technology to support us means we can do even more!

Yet currently, many of the works we've published have so many background voices that it is difficult to decipher what's being said. Similarly, listening to online stories or lessons gets really wild when we can hear the noise from the next computer over! Oh just imagine how much more engaged we will be when we can focus appropriately to the sounds coming from just our tablet or computer! And just imagine how much more our audiences, like family, will enjoy our narrated PowerPoint presentations and Voice Threads when they only hear our voice!

These child-sized headphones will improve the quality of our work so much, and that will make all of us so happy. We will be so thankful if you choose to support us. Our classroom uses technology in many effective, exciting ways, so it is important that we have the pieces we need to keep our learning moving forward. Also, with personalized and project-based learning at the core of our Blended Learning classroom, and being the digital natives that we are, we just cannot be held back by broken and missing headphones. Please help us out!
