My Students

I see each of the 925 students in the school for only 40 minutes per week, but "I love Music Class" is a commonly heard saying. There are many students who love the class simply because it is a safe haven for them to be themselves, to be accepted, and to learn all at the same time. Coming from India, the Phillippines, Malaysia parts of Africa, Latin and South America, and Kurdish region, blending with American culture as well as holding on to their own can seem overwhelming to them sometimes!

In addition to varied cultural backgrounds, my students have a wide range of abilities from the most inquisitive and active, to those suffering emotional, physical, and/or learning needs as well as English Learners.

Yet they are in my class eager to participate and feel the joy of a Music Community. We love to sing, dance, chant, create body percussion, play instruments, and listen to beautiful, inspiring music. Although they don't know it, they are becoming proficient music readers and expressive music performers! I have seen a significant change toward inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, and community.

My Project

Our Music classroom is on the stage, adjacent to the gym, with a collapsable curtain between our activities and those of PE. It can get exceedingly difficult to have any kind of musical experience. The Voice Enhancer is 'magic' for my voice to carry without harm to my vocal chords. Additionally, the Air purifiers will promise clean air (99.97%) for my students as they communicate through instruments and singing.

I need to have my students in class in order for them to learn and progress together.
