Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Pre-K through fifth grade elementary school in New York City. Our school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation. Many of my students live in nearby public housing or are from single-parent homes.

Many of my first grade students have special needs, are repeating a grade, or are struggling academically to achieve grade-level expectations.

They need essential resources to maximize learning opportunities to ensure they do their best work every day.

My Project

Health is wealth!

My students are a hard-working group of students who are persistent and determined to do well in school.

They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.

Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are." ~ Jean Anthelme Brillant-Savarin

My students are a curious and energetic group of fourth graders who seem to become more focused and inspired after recess when they are giving healthier snacking options.

My students are becoming more conscious of their bodies and what they are putting inside of them. When asked what items they would like to have to create their own trail mixes, they said, "juice, raisins, breakfast bars, fruit, and nuts". They understand how important snacking is and say they want healthier items to "boost their brain power." Many say that it is often harder to concentrate and complete homework assignments when they are hungry and just need a little snack to do their best thinking when schools are closed during holiday breaks or on weekends. These handy, ready to eat snacks--popcorn, crackers, fruit bars, and olives, will provide my students with an assortment of energy-boosting healthy snacks instead of filling up on snacks loaded with salt, fat and unnecessary sugars. This assortment of healthy snacks is essential for growing minds and bodies. They will provide my students with healthier snacking options whenever they are feeling hungry. This will help their minds and bodies focus on academic success and help them focus on learning the important strategies and skills that will prepare them for success at the next level.
