My Students

I teach in a Title I school, where more than half of the students are from low income families with both parents working long hours. This means that many times parents just don't have the extra time to support their child's education at home, but they do the best they can and it shows with our families.

"I can do it!"

That is the excitement I get to hear when my students learn something new- be it a new word or have begun reading simple sentences and small books, when they've learned a new math skill or science topic.

My students enter with various levels of Kindergarten readiness and spend so much time working together to learn and build each other up to become successful!

My Project

Being in a Title 1 School, meaning more than 50% of the students are low in come, many of my students come to school hungry or without a daily snack.

My goal this year is to help improve my students' health and focus by providing them with a daily snack throughout the year.

When my students are hungry, they are distracted. When they are distracted, they do no learn to their fullest potential.

My students should not have to worry about being hungry until lunch time. I want them to know they can come to me in the morning and be confident in knowing they'll get a little something to eat to start their day. By the day's end, we're all hungry again and unfocused. My boys and girls need afternoon snacks to keep them going and each child deserves to have something!
