My students are aspiring learners who want to take college-level AP Economics class.
Most of my students are from low-income, immigrant households that believe in the power of education, particularly in this unprecedented time of uncertainty.
My students aspire to learn economics to make sound financial decisions in life.
Our school of more than 4,500 students is the most diverse school in NYC and learning financial literacy will surely help them to mitigate the financial inequality created by lack of access to quality economics education in public schools.
My Project
Our AP economics students have been working hard every day. In addition to learning in the classroom, the complicated graphs and calculations require students to spend a lot of time at home wrestling with the materials and practicing problems to reach full understanding. To comply with social distancing rules, our seniors begin their learning journey at 7:15am! Many of them skip breakfast due to the early schedule.
Hence, I would like to provide healthy snacks in the classroom to encourage classroom participation and boost students’ attention!
With the overwhelming support from donors on Donorschoose, our classroom has various games to incentivize participation and these healthy snacks are the rewards for students’ active engagement, whether it be using their fingers to show a response to a multiple choice question, raising their hand to answer a question, or nodding their head to show understanding. Our students are shy partly due to the isolation they experienced during the remote learning, and I want to use these healthy snacks to encourage them to share with each other and progress together.
